Throughout its history, Horne Smelter has always been a strong presence for the community. Whether through community infrastructure or partnerships with organizations that help the most vulnerable populations, we are committed to improving the quality of life of our fellow citizens. We have helped create a number of infrastructures in the Noranda area, which residents still enjoy today, and we fund dozens of projects, initiatives, and events proposed by local organizations every year.
Employees committed to their community
Each year, we encourage our employees and managers to volunteer their time or demonstrate their support for organizations or causes close to their hearts. They can take advantage of an Employee Community Involvement Recognition Program that pays up to $1,000 for a project that benefits the community. For its part, the management team of the Horne Smelter contributes approximately 1,000 volunteer hours annually to socio-economic and community organizations in our area.
Building sustainable communities
We regularly interact with our many stakeholders through presentations and conferences, committees, newsletters, and other communications activities. At Horne Smelter, we work with a Liaison Committee to continually improve how we do things. We survey the opinions of citizens concerning the causes they care about. We analyze and respond to needs through our Community Partnership Program and our Social Engagement Plan.
