Instructions to follow in case of a major industrial incident

Siren Operation – Emergency Drill – May 7th, 2026 – 11 a.m.

NOTICE TO CITIZENS: CEZinc, along with the municipalities of Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague, and Saint-Stanislas-de-Kostka, would like to inform citizens that a public alert drill will take place on May 7th at 11 a.m.

The operation will last between 5 and 10 minutes. While the sirens may be heard beyond the targeted area, only businesses and residents of Salaberry-de-Valleyfield located within a 3.5 km radius of the CEZinc plant will receive a test message from the Automated Emergency Messaging System (SAM).

NO action is required on your part. The end of the siren will signal the conclusion of the drill.

If you hear a siren or are contacted by the Automated Emergency Measures System, here is what you should do:

  • Immediately take shelter indoors, unless otherwise advised. Bring pets inside if they are nearby and easy to find.
  • Close doors and windows, as well as ventilation, heating, air exchange and air conditioning systems.
  • Seal openings with rags.
  • Retrieve your 72-hour emergency kit.
  • Leave your children at school or daycare. The staff at these establishments are informed of the measures to take.
  • If you are in a vehicle, head out of the affected area as soon as possible, while respecting the Highway Safety Code. Close windows, air conditioning or heating.
  • Free up telephone lines for emergency services. Do not call 911 or any other authority for information.
  • Tune to 103.1 FM (CKOD) and follow updates on the Ville de Salaberry-de-Valleyfield website for instructions from authorities.

You will be informed as soon as the situation returns to normal.
