Raglan Mine wins the John T. Ryan Trophee (Quebec/Maritimes region)!
At the occasion of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum's annual gala in Montreal on Monday April 29th, Raglan Mine won the John T. Ryan Trophy for the Quebec/Maritimes region!
The trophy goes to us because we were the mine with the lowest reportable injury frequency in 2018 for the Quebec/Maritimes region. This is the eighth time we have won this trophy since the beginning of our mining operations in 1997. A tremendous honour!
The management team congratulated all employees and contractors on the hundred or so prevention actions that they have carried out in 2018, thus reducing the number of accidents. Whether it is to report incidents with or without injury or property damage, to correct a dangerous condition, to suggest improvements or to encourage safe behaviours among their colleagues, all these actions are the result of their choice to act safely for them, their colleagues and their family.
Congratulations to all our employees and contractors for this exemplary recognition!
About the John T. Ryan Trophee
In 1941, the Canadian mining industry was making every effort possible to produce metals and minerals for war supplies. It was important, given the work environment at the time, to optimize safe production. In order to recognize notable achievement, the Mine Safety Appliances suggested to the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) to create a trophy. The first trophy, named the John T. Ryan Trophy to honour the founder of Mine Safety Appliances, was won by the Chesterville Mine near Virginiatown, Ontario.
